Confidence can take you pretty far, but it has to be backed up by talent. When this 18-year-old stepped into the audition room, he set out to prove himself.
“I’ll tell you something. I am good!” Justin tells his friends in the video below, posted on September 21, 2013, as they wait outside on line for The X Factor: UK.
He’s from China, but moved to the U.K. by himself to study math. That explains his calculated moves during his audition.
“I’m not Justin Bieber. I’m not Justin Timberlake. I’m Justin Peng!” the young student declares, baffling the judges.
His right hand is fixed behind his back. One of the judges asks him about it and receives a quick, somewhat shy answer.
“Um, I got a flower for Nicole,” he says, handing a pink rose to Nicole Scherzinger. After an enthusiastic hug, Justin returns to the audition floor and announces his song of choice: “I’m going to sing Whitney Houston’s song ‘I Look To You.’”
The judges are quite wary of his decision. One asks, “Are you sure that’s the right song?” It’s a huge, powerful song, and they can’t quite picture the math student in front of them belting it out.
He assures them that he’s going to perform the song and prepares for his big moment to impress the X Factor panel.
Once Justin opens his mouth, he completely stuns the judges with a surprising performance that certainly exceeds the judges’ expectations.
That’s why you should never judge a book by its cover. See Justin’s audition in the video below — he’ll have you floored as well.
